This chalk is specifically made for children's plastic blackboards, NOT real slate chalkboards...:
FYI to the many other reviewers who seem to be confused. This product is specifically formulated for the plastic blackboards made in children's easels and toys, NOT the old school chalk boards made from slate. It works perfectly fine when used for the correct purpose. My daughter has a Crayola easel and the instructions specifically say to use this anti-dust version so the plastic surface doesn't get scratched. If you are looking for chalk for the slate chalkboards, you'll need to go with a different brand.
Was the best, is now the worst:
I completely agree with other negative reviews written here. I am a math teacher and use this chalk every day. In the past, Crayola's white chalk was amazing: It wrote cleanly and very smoothly, created very little dust, and wiped easily and cleanly. Our school uses Prang's white chalk, which compared to the old Crayola chalk, was much dustier and created a very white-colored black board that was difficult to read after a few days. Not what is was:
This chalk is sadly junk. It damaged one of my boards and recently there seems to be even more filler in it so that it hits a bit of it, scratches the board, and snaps all at the same time! Also this chalk does not erase cleanly making my board a mess after just a few problems. Overall I recommend going with Prang's Hygieia chalk and saving the trouble. As also mentioned by another reviewer, if you are a fan of chalk holders (I certainly am) then this will not work in them. Substandard material, size, and... more info
Bad for chalkboards!:
This product is terrible for natural slate boards! It is absolutely not the same formula it used to be, which was obvious from the first strokes. It is gritty and scratchy and left scratches on my 50 year old chalkboard. I expected more from Crayola. I passed the whole box on to the grandkids to use for sidewalk chalk. I'm going back to Prang's Hygieia brand.
